Setting up an emulator for the PC-8801mkIISR, a unique Japanese computer, can be a challenge. This guide simplifies the process using the standard M88 emulator.
1. Download the Emulator
- Go to the M88 Website.
- Click download on the right menu and select the red M88 2.21a link.
- Download
M88_221a.lzh. If your browser flags it as unsafe, please proceed anyway; the file is safe. - Extract the contents into a new folder.

2. Setup Compatible ROMs
- Visit the ROM Download Page.
- Find and click pbios00.lzh (usually the second item from the bottom).
- Extract the file and copy the contents into your M88 folder.

3. Generate Character Fonts
Correct font generation usually requires a Japanese environment. For overseas users, follow these steps to generate a dummy font:
- Download
gft_1_0_0.zipfrom this page. - Extract it into your M88 folder.
- Open the Command Prompt, navigate to the M88 folder, and run:
Gen88Font.exe --m88 --font Arial
This will generate KANJI1.ROM and KANJI2.ROM, completing the required files.

4. Running the Emulator
- Double-click
M88.exeto start. - Once the window appears, drag and drop your XeGrader files into the emulator to launch them.

Reset Tip: If the settings become unstable, close M88 and delete the
